Amy Terán is a Colorado native with a flair for languages, art, dance, and travel. She studied at Colorado State University and la Universidad de las Américas in México where she obtained a B.F.A. in Metal Sculpture and Jewelrymaking, a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature, a Certificate of Latin American Studies, and completed her teacher licensure.
During her career, she has taught Spanish, Art, E.L.A., and G.E.D. in Spanish to students ranging from elementary to postsecondary. She taught at the University of Denver High School and the Community College of Denver for several years before joining the Denver Public Schools at North High School in the fall of 2007. It was in DPS that she was first exposed to the world of comprehensible input and participated as World Language Advisory committee member, Spanish Heritage Curriculum writer, Proficiency Assessment writer and Professional Development Unit instructor. She presented on reading and technology at the 2009 DPS Summer Institute and 2009 TPRS Workshop, and at the 2010 CCFLT Spring Conference.

Amy began teaching internationally in Curaçao where she taught Spanish and IB Art at the International School of Curaçao from 2010-2014. In 2012 she presented at the AASSA International School Conference in Quito, Ecuador and in 2013 and 2014 she was asked to present at the International Forum on Language Teaching in the United States. Amy currently resides in Maracaibo where she teaches MS/HS/IB Art at Escuela Bella Vista.

A strong believer in service-learning, she has spent the past decade traveling with students to Mexico to study Spanish and volunteer at Casa Ayuda, an orphanage for which she and her students created the Ayuda Foundation non-profit organization. When she isn’t teaching, she relishes the opportunity to continue exploring new cultures, some of her most recent adventures include: Peru, Holland, Denmark, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. She is an avid Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata dancer. She also runs Off-Leash Art Studio from her home where she continues to produce and sell her own artwork.
